Water tank dismantling in progress.
ANGUILLA–Work is underway to dismantle the 500,000 gallon steel water tank at Crocus Hill. In a release from Governor Tim Foy, it states that this project is part of the UK government’s EC $6.7 million Global Britain Fund.
After being severely damaged by Hurricane Irma the tank posed a threat to nearby infrastructure as well as to private homes, in the event of any future disaster.
Water Corporation of Anguilla (WCA) staff are working hard to ensure the tank is demolished safely and quickly. This is an important part of the Anguilla and UK governments’ island-wide efforts to help protect and rebuild Anguilla. WCA Water Engineer Kahlea Clifton-James said, “It was not just necessary but critical to dismantle this tank prior to the peak hurricane season of 2018 as the risk of it completely giving way was great. The WCA is very grateful to the Governor’s Office for their assistance in completing this very necessary task.”
