Water woes in St. Eustatius continue into second week | THE DAILY HERALD

Employees of utility company STUCO digging up Concordia Road to locate the leaking waterpipe.

  1. EUSTATIUS–The water issues which have plagued St. Eustatius Utility Company STUCO since last week have forced the company to extend the rationing of drinking water until Friday, February 15. Water will be provided to STUCO customers only between 5:00am and 8:00am and from 5:00pm to 8:00pm.

A leak was discovered in Concordia on Saturday, February 9. STUCO workers blocked off Concordia Road and proceeded to dig up the street and repair the leak. This leak forced the company to extend the water rationing that was already in effect.

The company was forced to enact water rationing on Thursday, February 7, due to the relocation of the main water line. In the last week the company has had to deal with an internal water issue at the water plant, relocation of the main water line due to a boundary issue with a private organization, low pressure caused by the relocation of the main water line and now a leak in Concordia.

STUCO is hopeful that no other leaks will emerge or any other issues present themselves that might extend the water rationing.

Some residents reconnected the cisterns at their homes because of the water rationing. When asked, one resident stated that the time of the rationing is an “inconvenience” for their household operations. STUCO apologized for any inconvenience this issue may cause.
