Joann Phillip with her winning cocktail “Passionate”
ANGUILLA–Joann Phillip of Four Seasons is the winner of the Celebratory Rum Cocktail Competition inspired by Anguilla’s 50th Anniversary. Her bright orange gold “Passionate” was highlighted by an original, delicate foam of passion fruit juice and almond flavoured liqueurs and topped with edible flamboyant flowers. The competition was organised by Anguilla Life Magazine in cooperation with Tropical Distributors and Angostura, and held at Ripples Restaurant.
Other entrants were from Cap Juluca, CuisinArt, Four Seasons, Malliouhana, Zemi Beach House, DaVida and Straw Hat. Bartenders created colourful concoctions which required using Angostura 7 Rum as well as Bitters as partial ingredients.
The judges were Ron Webster – Taste of the Caribbean Best Bartender three times, Lavon Richardson – Taste of the Caribbean gold medallist, and Jacquie Ruan owner of Ripples Restaurant. In keeping with the number 50, scoring was from five sections with 10 points for each section: Taste, Presentation, Name, Creativity, Ease of Preparation.
In second place was Malliouhana’s Catherine Niles’ Anguitura-Tini, followed by Jessica Hodge of Cap Juluca’s LE AR67.
The winning drink, Passionate, is now featured on Four Season’s Sunset Bar menu and was introduced to guests at their current weekly Manager’s guest reception.
