MARIGOT–New company Wonderland Factory is poised to present a concert of young local recording artists at a unique show to be staged in the gardens of Loterie Farm on Saturday, May 6, 2017. It’s the first of “Les Pépites” which is expected to become an annual event, organisers stated at a press conference Wednesday.
Wonderland Factory partners Nadia Boukir and Emmanuelle Toulliou explained the concept to allow young artists of the island, French and Dutch sides, to benefit from greater visibility within a professional context and environment. The show on May 6 is not a talent competition, the organisers emphasised.
The artists booked to perform at the concert are no strangers to the island. They include Malaïka Maxwell (32) who has just released her single “Journey,” 21-year-old Kenyo Baly well known for his hit “Who Yuh Fuh,” Jabz with his single released last year “Island Kid” and the sensational 13-year-old Tamillia Chance. A fifth artiste, Enora, withdrew from the line-up for the first edition for personal reasons and was replaced by Jabz.
Each of the artists will be accompanied by a band assembled by drummer Fred York who is also the coach for young talents. Each artist will sing four songs, collaborate on an ensemble number, and spring some surprises on the audience.
“All four artists are bringing their own vibe to the show, from the soulful sophistication of Malaïka, to the ballads, reggae and soca of Kenyo, the youthful energy of Tamillia, to the reggae, Caribbean, Latin and European flavours of Jabz,” stated York. “These artists don’t need any coaching from me. It’s the band that I’m coaching. I highly recommend everyone come out on May 6 and see how bright these stars are.”
York added making the difference between this show and other shows is the “complete package” that Wonderland Factory will provide for the audience.
“Sometimes you get a great venue and poor performances or great artists and a poor venue. Wonderland Factory has a great vision – a turn-key programme. Having the right sound and lighting is so important. This is the concert that will bring everything together… great location, great technical staff, super talent, and hand-picked all-star musicians.”
The concert venue in the garden will be decorated by designer Nohémienne Brunet. It will also be enhanced by Churchie York and Christopher Bertrand for the sound, Eric Fayon for lighting, No Fire Limit and Ben for fire dancers etc. Wonderland Factory is responsible for production and artistic direction. Morgane Krijan is the “vjay” for the concert.
Wonderland Factory was created at the end of 2016 by Boukir and Toulliou. Its purpose is to create events tailored for businesses and individuals and designed as shows. Wonderland Factory is also the producer of performances (concerts, ballets, theatre) representing its core business. The company’s artistic director is qualified in performing arts. In this area the company has accumulated 15 years of experience at the service of structures such as theatre groups, neighbourhood associations, festivals, territorial communities etc.
Tickets for the concert are 30 euros or US $30 and may be purchased at Loterie Farm, at the e-centres in Marigot, and from Le Pélican newspaper.
Doors open at 7:00pm on May 6.
