World Bank to meet Parliament Sept. 13 | THE DAILY HERALD

PHILIPSBURG–Officials of the World Bank responsible for the administrating the St. Maarten Recovery and Resilience Trust Fund are scheduled to make a presentation about their assignment and accompanying guidelines to Parliament on September 13, two days after the opening of the 2018-2019 Parliamentary Year.

The presentation results from a request from Parliament Chairwoman Sarah Wescot-Williams via Prime Minister Leona Romeo-Marlin.

Speaking to the press about her request, Wescot-Williams said it was imperative for the World Bank representatives assigned to St. Maarten to brief the country’s highest body about the scope of its works. The meeting is geared to receiving “first-hand information” about project selection, procedure and funding.

The World Bank representatives have already briefed the Second Chamber of the Dutch Parliament on their work. The trust fund, totalling some 550 million euros, was supplied by the Dutch government in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma as a basis to help rebuild devastated St. Maarten.

It is only fitting for the World Bank to give local legislators the same briefing as the work directly affects St. Maarten residents, said Wescot-Williams.
