PHILIPSBURG–White and Yellow Cross Care Foundation (WYCCF) has opened doors of the first hospice facility in St. Maarten.

The hospice is located in one of the newly reconstructed wings of St. Martin’s Home.

The two-bed facility features a dining room, outdoor terraces, garden and a kitchen beautifully furnished with funding provided by Samenwerkende Fondsen.

The goal of the new hospice is to provide quality palliative care and to improve the quality of life for both the clients and the family.

WYCCF Operations Manager Bregje Boetekees said, “Palliative care is more than just hospice care, it is a specialised care for persons living with a terminal illness. This kind of care focuses on providing relief for our clients from the symptoms and the burdens of their illness.”

The hospice will also be open to families 24/7 so that they may spend time with their loved one. Family overnight accommodation options are available for families who wish to sleep in with their loved ones. This affords a comfortable experience for the client and family.

In celebration of the opening, WYCCF invites the general public to submit a name for the hospice. “We would love to give the hospice a special name and would love the help of the general public in doing so. Name suggestions can be sent to
