PHILIPSBURG–Xtratight Entertainment, the creators of TelCell’s Night of the Hit Makers, is gearing up for Calypso Lounge on November 30. According to event organisers, Calypso Lounge will be a cultural event showcasing both local and international calypso music, social commentary and a twist of comedy.
Set to perform are well-known calypso artists Sugar Aloes, Gypsy, King TMO, King Beau Beau, Empress Z, and Cedrick Rey. Backed by the Xtratight Band, the event will be hosted by comedian and radio personality Fernando Clark.
According to show promoter Bertaux “Mr. Rude” Fleming of Xtratight Entertainment, Calypso Lounge will foster great energy and “the oldie-goodies will have you rising to your feet.”
“We will be rekindling the artform and igniting the passion for calypso and talent for the audiences who enjoy social commentary. It is important to note that this is not a competition, but a high-energy concert,” he said.
Organisers said the artistes have been gearing up to put on a show that will “resonate as a memorial experience for their fans.”
Sugar Aloes is a calypsonian from Trinidad and Tobago with hits such as “Party time”, “Juanita”, “I love being me” and “Signs of the end of time”.
Famous hits such as “Captain, the Ship is Sinking” and “Little Black Boy” will be performed by Gypsy. He is also a well-known calypsonian from Trinidad and Tobago and is recognised as one of the world’s best ex-tempo (freestyling) artistes, having won more than seven ex-tempo titles.
Local calypsonians King TMO and King Beau Beau, and St. Maarten’s 2019 Calypso Monarch Empress Z will be on stage as well.
The show will be held at the Princess Port de Plaisance tent. The gates will open at 8:00pm and the show begins at 9:00pm.
“With high expectations, the patrons will enjoy the entire show, and the audience can expect the performers to sing their hearts out,” said Fleming.
Ticket outlets include Adolphus Richardson Office Supplies, Domino’s Pizza, Oasis Food and Drink, and Levi’s Boutique in Marigot. Tickets cost US $30 in advance and $40 on the day of the show.
