ANGUILLA–Kyiv Edwards who plays the saxophone and Kasem Thompson on the trombone will be among featured performers in the American Protégé Winners Recital at Carnegie Hall, New York, on Sunday, April 1. They will be accompanied by pianist Kamal Vanterpool.

The two young musicians were adjudged second place winners in January this year after their audition video was reviewed by a panel of adjudicators on behalf of the prestigious organisation. The American Protégé Competition seeks to expose and promote talented musicians in a competitive environment. Edwards and Thompson were entered in the amateur category of the woodwind and brass divisions. The mission is to present extraordinary music and musicians on three stages providing visionary education programmes, bringing the transformative power of music to the widest possible audience, and to foster the future of music through new works, artistes and audiences.

Lennox Vanterpool, Director of the Morlens School of Music in Anguilla said, “This excellent opportunity for these three young men is yet another demonstration of well-directed talent and conscientious focus. We thank God for them and for His guiding hand in their lives, and we know they will represent Morlens and Anguilla with integrity.” He also expressed appreciation to Irina Kaufman for information and guidance leading to the entry and participation of the successful candidates.

Edwards, Thompson and Vanterpool all have exceptional talent, Lennox reported, noting that they perform leading roles in music ensembles in Anguilla and have benefitted from private and public school tuition as well as attending the University of the Virgin Islands’ summer boot camp several times.

Many people have sent congratulations to the musicians, and family members and friends residing in the New York area have already secured tickets for the performance.
