Young man killed in French Quarter scooter accident | THE DAILY HERALD

MARIGOT—A scooter rider died on the scene in French Quarter on Tuesday afternoon in a high-speed crash after colliding head-on with a car coming in the opposite direction.

The fatal accident occurred at around 1:00pm opposite the pharmacy on the main RN7 road. Gendarmes and Police Territorial were quickly on the scene to control traffic and the many bystanders.

Lt. Colonel Sébastien Manzoni on site said the Gendarmerie is investigating the accident to establish exactly what happened.

Bystanders said the scooter, a Typhoon 125, was travelling at speed in the Orient Bay direction when a black Ford Fiesta travelling in the Belle Plaine direction began to make the left turn at the Pharmacy to go to the Collège.

The violent head-on collision propelled the scooter rider through the air landing yards away on the other side of the pharmacy. He was wearing a crash helmet. Fire Brigade (pompiers) and medics from emergency responder SAMUR treated the victims on the scene.  Despite a prolonged cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) effort the scooter rider passed away.

The Gendarmerie indicated the driver of the Ford Fiesta was also seriously injured and transported to the Louis-Constant Fleming Hospital. No other persons or cars were involved in the fatal accident. A neighbour named the deceased scooter rider as Mathew Germain, a resident of French Quarter.
