ST. EUSTATIUS–Statia Youth Night 2018 on Tuesday will feature a wide range of talent in Carnival City (Mike van Putten Youth Centre) at 8:00pm.
The show line-up will feature some of Statia’s talented youths in song, dance, skits, and modelling.
Titus Band, a young and upcoming band will be launched that night. The band consists of seven young men, some of whom will leave the island to further their studies in August.
There will be four main acts – two-time Junior Road March Queen Kay, St. Maarten budding artiste Elona Richardson, international artist Big Shen and Trinidad award-winning singer Aaron Duncan.
Organiser and host Sjahairah “Lady Shorteh” Fleming said she had taken part in Carnival as an artiste for many years and decided to focus on the youth this year.
The youth attend the adult shows, she said. It was time to organise one for the youth. “A show where our youths can come out, have fun and be inspired. My goal is to make this show one of a kind because the youths of Statia deserve it.”
The youth show is funded mostly out of pocket by Fleming. Getting sponsorship and help for the show has been “most difficult.” She did receive some assistance which helps to keep her spirits high.
Fleming is assisted by Suyne Robins, Francesca Dembrook and others.
