ST. PETERS–The St. Maarten Youth Parliament is a programme of the St. Maarten Youth Council Association geared towards youth 14-26 years. The programme provides training in government and politics, parliamentary procedures, debating, critical thinking and reasoning skills, and leadership training.
The Youth Parliament is a youth think tank. In addition to holding public policy debates, the Youth Parliament organises public forums and discussions that allow young people to voice their opinions on key issues and to gather information on issues that affect their lives. This vibrant group of young leaders is also service-oriented and actively involved in giving service to the community.
Recruitment for new members will take place from today, Monday, June 12, to July 21. A series of training sessions for new recruits will be held during August. Persons interested in being a part of the programme can contact the St. Maarten Youth Parliament by email at sxmyouthcouncil@hotmail.com ,

The closing activity for the current Youth Parliamentary Year will be a joint session with the Youth Territorial Council of French St. Martin on June 30. The topic will be “Multilingual Education creates strong communities.”
The Youth Parliament extended its heartfelt appreciation to the various institutions, businesses and individuals for their support over the years and looks ahead to building stronger partnerships while moulding tomorrow’s leaders.
