Ys is to chair CBCS board

WILLEMSTAD–Former Prime Minister of the Netherlands Antilles Etienne Ys has been nominated for the presidency of the Supervisory Board of the Central Bank of Curaçao and St. Maarten (CBCS), confirmed Curaçao Finance Minister Kenneth Gijsbertha, who is currently in St. Maarten for the expansion and renovation of CBCS’ branch in Philipsburg.

He and his St. Maarten counterpart Richard Gibson must agree on his joint appointment. The two Governments want to install a completely new board.

The only two remaining members Miriela Carolina and Tom Kok will be forced to resign, as they refused to comply with the request of the shareholders to step down. The duo stated in a July 12 letter to Gijsbertha that in executing their task they encountered wrongful practices and stood op against these, “which the people participating in such or covering it up did not appreciate.”

They claim the now former board members Robert Pietersz and Hubert Lopez were bought by CBCS President-director Emsley Tromp. “This systematically resulted in a refusal to take any measures against the president.”

According to Carolina and Kok, it was the shareholder’s meeting that had constantly been unable to complete the Supervisory Board for it to function properly. The Central Bank statutes say new members can only be appointed on recommendation of the board.
