Yvette Fleming Hodge passes away at 101 years

MARIGOT–Yvette Fleming-Hodge, the mother of former Senator of St. Martin Louis-Constant Fleming, passed away peacefully in Miami, Florida on Thursday, her family confirmed. She had reached the grand age of 101 years.

Just earlier this year in March she celebrated her 101st birthday with a quiet family gathering at her home in Bellevue.
The family made the wise decision to take her off the island on September 10, five days after Hurricane Irma struck the island and she spent two weeks in Montreal while Irma passed through Florida. When it was safe to do so she returned to Miami.
President of the Collectivité Daniel Gibbs in a statement said he was very saddened to learn of her passing, describing her as one of the “indispensable doyennes” of the island.
“With her passing, a whole part of our history has gone with her,” he said. “Yvette Fleming Hodge had an exceptionally long life, rich in achievements, a life fully fulfilled. We can be proud of her journey as a brilliant, sincere and committed St. Martin woman who loved her island.
“On behalf of the Collectivité of St. Martin, its elected representatives, employees and the entire population, I wish to extend my heartfelt condolences to her family, her children and grandchildren and to all those who were close to her.
“Her passing is a considerable loss to St. Martin. She never ceased to invest her knowledge for the betterment of her island and throughout her life dedicated herself to the development of our economy and emancipation of our people.
“I have great admiration for Madame Fleming, a great and kind lady who has just left us. Her memory will remain engraved in our hearts.”
Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
