GREAT BAY--The Men’s Mental Health Awareness Foundation will host its 4th Annual Suicide Prevention Awareness Lantern Light on Friday, September 25, 2026, at 7:00pm at the Philipsburg Boardwalk Sports Park, bringing the community together for an evening of remembrance, reflection, connection and hope.
Organizers said the annual event is intended to create a space where people can remember loved ones, share their experiences, encourage others and reinforce the message that no one facing difficult circumstances has to feel alone.
“This evening is more than just a lantern light. It is a moment to remember, reflect, connect, and remind one another that there is always hope,” the Foundation stated.
A central part of the evening will be the release of biodegradable floating lanterns. The Foundation said the lanterns were selected with environmental responsibility in mind and precautionary measures will be in place throughout the event to ensure the tribute does not cause harm to the environment.
The event will also feature an open mic, allowing members of the public to speak openly about their experiences. Participants will have an opportunity to share personal testimonies, honor and remember someone they have lost, offer words of encouragement or speak about their own journeys of hope and resilience.
The Foundation is encouraging anyone who feels comfortable sharing to use the opportunity to help others understand that conversations surrounding mental health, emotional struggles and suicide prevention should not be avoided.
Awareness T-shirts will also be available for $25 as part of the Foundation’s efforts to spread its suicide prevention message. Persons interested in purchasing a shirt can reserve one by contacting the Men’s Mental Health Awareness Foundation through its social media pages, Messenger, email or telephone.
The Foundation is inviting residents across St. Maarten to attend, whether they have experienced personal loss, supported someone through a difficult period or simply want to stand in solidarity with those affected.
“Come light a lantern. Come share a story. Come remember. Come encourage someone. Come remind someone that their life matters,” the Foundation stated.
The 4th Annual Suicide Prevention Awareness Lantern Light begins at 7:00pm on Friday, September 25, at the Philipsburg Boardwalk Sports Park.
