GREAT BAY--Nation Opportunity Wealth Member of Parliament Lyndon Lewis, Vice Chair of Parliament’s Justice Committee, marked Justice Day by extending his appreciation and gratitude to the men and women serving throughout St. Maarten’s justice sector.
Lewis, a former Minister of Justice and law enforcement professional, said the occasion provides an important opportunity to recognise the people whose commitment, professionalism and sacrifice help maintain law, order and public safety.
“As the former Minister of Justice and, by extension, a law enforcement professional, I hereby take this opportunity to recognize the countless individuals whose unwavering commitment, professionalism, and sacrifice help maintain law, order, and public safety in our country on this special day,” Lewis said.
“Their dedication, often carried out behind the scenes and under challenging circumstances, forms the backbone of our justice system.”
Lewis offered special recognition to the two women currently leading the Ministry of Justice, Minister of Justice Nathalie Tackling and Secretary General of Justice Florence Marlin, for their leadership and dedicated service to the personnel attached to the Ministry’s various departments.
He also acknowledged the contribution of the Ministry’s department heads and every justice worker who continues to serve the people of St. Maarten.
Lewis paid tribute to personnel of the Police Force of St. Maarten, Customs, Immigration, the Coast Guard, the Prison and House of Detention, the National Detectives, the Staff Bureau and the Ministry’s administrative departments.
He also recognised the work of the Court of Guardianship, the Courthouse, the Prosecutor’s Office, the Financial Intelligence Unit and other professionals and organisations operating throughout the justice chain.
These include the Voluntary Corps of St. Maarten, Victim Support Services, Turning Point Foundation and Judicial and Institutional Services.
“Every member of the justice family plays a vital role in protecting our nation and upholding the rule of law,” Lewis said.
“Without your dedication, commitment, and sacrifices, there can be no justice. Your service often goes unseen, but it is deeply valued and appreciated.”
As Vice Chair of Parliament’s Justice Committee, Lewis reaffirmed his commitment to advocating for a stronger justice sector.
He said this includes supporting revenue-generating initiatives intended to improve resources, working conditions and opportunities for the hardworking professionals who serve the country.
Lewis concluded by thanking every justice worker, past and present, for their invaluable contribution to St. Maarten and for the role they continue to play in protecting the country and strengthening the rule of law.
