GREAT BAY--Prime Minister Dr. Luc Mercelina extends heartfelt appreciation and congratulations to all teachers across Sint Maarten in celebration of World Teachers’ Day today, October 5, recognizing their dedication, professionalism and lasting contribution to the development of the country.

The Prime Minister pays tribute to educators serving in public and private institutions, from early childhood and primary education to secondary, vocational, special and higher education. He also acknowledges retired teachers whose years of service continue to influence generations of students and families.

“Behind every classroom door is a teacher helping to shape the future of Sint Maarten. Through your patience, knowledge and encouragement, you give our children more than lessons; you give them confidence, direction and the courage to believe in their potential. On behalf of the Government and people of Sint Maarten, I thank you,” Prime Minister Mercelina stated.

The Prime Minister recognizes that teaching requires considerable preparation, creativity and care, often extending well beyond the school day. Teachers guide students through academic challenges while supporting their personal growth and helping them develop respect, responsibility and a sense of belonging.

“A teacher’s influence is often felt long after a student leaves the classroom. A word of encouragement, an act of kindness or the decision to give a struggling learner another opportunity can change the course of a life. Many of us stand where we are today because a teacher saw something in us before we could see it ourselves,” the Prime Minister said.

Prime Minister Mercelina also emphasizes that appreciation for educators must be reflected in how the profession is supported throughout the year. Respect for teachers, opportunities for professional development, access to appropriate resources and attention to their well-being are essential to a strong education system.

He extends special encouragement to those entering the profession and gratitude to experienced educators who mentor and support their colleagues.

“To every teacher across Sint Maarten: your work matters, your dedication is valued, and your contribution reaches far beyond the classroom. Thank you for helping our children discover who they are and what they can become. I wish you a happy and meaningful World Teachers’ Day,” Prime Minister Mercelina concluded.
