GREAT BAY--The St. Maarten Carnival Development Foundation (SCDF) has announced that Carnival 2026 will be dedicated to five Carnival stalwarts who have each played an essential role in shaping and sustaining the festival over the years. The recognition of these five honorees, dubbed “5 for 55,” commemorates the 55th anniversary of St. Maarten Carnival in April 2026.
The “5 for 55” honorees are:
Ms. Mary Brison – The driving force behind the Meals on Wheels initiative, Ms. Brison is also a long-time Carnival booth holder. Her booth is the only one in Carnival Village that caters specifically to the elderly and physically challenged every year, a tradition that reflects her compassion and service to the community.
Francois “Cuchi” Hunt – An international concert promoter and owner of Radio St. Martin 101.5 FM, Hunt is credited with establishing Noche Latina as a signature event within the Carnival calendar. Through his radio platform, he continues to showcase and promote Carnival’s music and culture across the region and beyond.
Earl “Churchie” York – The founder and operator of Sound 2000, York has been the heartbeat of Carnival’s sound, lighting, and stage production for three decades. This year also marks Sound 2000’s 30th anniversary, symbolizing a partnership that has grown alongside Carnival itself. His influence in the evolution of music and production during the festival is immeasurable.
Mixmaster Pauly – A veteran DJ and the official DJ of the SCDF, Pauly has performed more sets in Carnival Village than any other local DJ, dating back to the days of the original wooden Village. His energy, creativity, and longstanding collaboration with the SCDF have enhanced the Carnival experience both on stage and on the road.
Louis “Porkchop” Richardson – Fondly known simply as Porkchop, he brought laughter, color, and contagious spirit to the Grand Carnival Parade and road events for many years. His animated presence became a living symbol of St. Maarten Carnival, captured in countless photos and videos around the world.
The SCDF stated that more details and tributes about the honorees will be shared in the coming weeks and months.
“These five individuals, five true Carnival lovers, have given so much of themselves to this festival,” said SCDF President Edwardo Radjouki. “There are many who have contributed to Carnival’s success, but this group stands out because of the vital roles they’ve played in different areas of the celebration. Their cooperation with the SCDF and their unwavering dedication over the years are beyond measure. We are deeply grateful for their sacrifices, their love for the festival, and their enduring commitment to St. Maarten Carnival.”
