GREAT BAY--Royal Caribbean’s new Hero of the Seas is scheduled to make its first call on St. Maarten on August 24, 2027 (barring a change), placing the destination among the early Caribbean ports to welcome the fourth ship in the cruise line’s Icon Class fleet.

The St. Maarten visit comes less than two weeks after Hero of the Seas is scheduled to begin passenger service from Miami on August 11, 2027. Its first sailing will be a three-night voyage to Perfect Day at CocoCay, followed by a seven-night Western Caribbean cruise beginning August 14. The ship then switches to an Eastern Caribbean itinerary departing Miami on August 21, with Philipsburg scheduled as its first port call on August 24 following two days at sea.

Current itineraries have Hero of the Seas arriving in St. Maarten at 8:00 a.m. and departing at 5:00 p.m. The seven-night voyage continues to St. Thomas on August 25 and Perfect Day at CocoCay on August 27 before returning to Miami on August 28.

St. Maarten is expected to become a recurring destination for the ship rather than receiving a single inaugural-season call. A second Philipsburg visit is already scheduled for August 31, followed by additional calls during the ship’s Eastern Caribbean rotations. Royal Caribbean itself lists St. Maarten, along with St. Thomas, among the destinations Hero of the Seas will visit from Miami.

The upcoming St. Maarten arrival gained added significance this week after Hero of the Seas reached a major construction milestone in Finland. The vessel floated for the first time at the Meyer Turku shipyard, one year after construction formally began with its keel-laying ceremony on September 8, 2025.

More than 90 million gallons of water were used to fill the dry dock overnight as the ship was floated and moved to its outfitting pier. With most of the exterior work completed, construction will now increasingly focus on the interior before the vessel proceeds to sea trials and eventual delivery.

Hero of the Seas will join Icon of the Seas, Star of the Seas and Legend of the Seas as the fourth member of Royal Caribbean’s Icon Class. It will be based in Miami beginning in August 2027, taking over a role currently held by Icon of the Seas as that ship moves to Galveston, Texas.

Royal Caribbean is also introducing several changes aboard Hero compared with its sister ships. Among them will be a New Orleans-themed supper club, following the New York, Chicago and Hollywood concepts introduced on other Icon Class ships.

Hero will also be the first Royal Caribbean ship to feature the three-deck Ultimate Family Treehouse, a family accommodation concept extending across three levels. The adults-only Hideaway area is being updated and will include what Royal Caribbean says will be the largest swim-up bar at sea.

Other additions include the new Coconut Cove pool, two family raft slides and new entertainment offerings. Royal Caribbean says the ship will feature nine pools, new waterslides and 28 dining venues as it expands on the design introduced with the first Icon Class vessels.

The August 24 call means St. Maarten will receive Hero of the Seas during the ship’s first full month of operation and on its first scheduled Eastern Caribbean voyage. Its inclusion in subsequent itineraries also places the destination within Royal Caribbean’s regular deployment of one of its newest vessels during the 2027 Caribbean cruise season.
