Alternative sought for tourist driver’s license

St. Maarten News – The introduction of a driver’s license for tourists is off the books, because the Vienna convention prohibits charging foreigners for such a license, Minister of General Affairs William Marlin said Tuesday evening during the second day of the budget debate.
The government is however bent on finding a way around this ban by introducing a driving permit – not a license – for non-residents.

Initially the plan was to introduce a driver’s license for tourists with a validity of three months. It would cost 50 guilders. “We cannot force tourists to use another driver’s license than their own,” Marlin told parliament.
