PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten — On November 22nd 2015 bomb threats near PJIA were called in at the Dispatch Centre of the St Maarten Police Force. These threats were investigated and no explosives were found. These threats caused extra police work, disruption of airline flight schedules , traffic congestions, and unnecessary discomfort for travellers.

These kinds of threats are negative to the tourist economy of St. Maarten and are considered serious crimes that are investigated with priority.

After investigations by the detective department / information unit of the St. Maarten Police Force, in cooperation with telecom providers Telem, UTS and the security departments of PJIA en KLM/Air France and under the responsibility of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, a 42 year old British citizen, Brian Andrew Rymer, was arrested directly after his arrival on St. Maarten on the 25th of December 2015.

The suspect departed St. Maarten on the 23rd of November 2015, but could nevertheless be identified in the period after his departure and arrested as a result of it. He is currently in detention.

He will be led for the judge of instruction on Monday. Several items are seized and his involvement in this case is further investigated.
