Ex-police officer York sentenced to 6 years in jail

PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten — The Joint Court of Justice on December 7, sentenced former police officer R.M.P.Y. to 6 years in jail for manslaughter and illegal firearms possession.

This was according to the jail sentence asked by the Solicitor-General during the criminal proceedings in the Court of Appeal three weeks ago.

The Court of First Instance had sentenced Y. to 8 years imprisonment for the shooting and killing of H.K.I. on March 4, 2015.
