2 suspects arrested in ongoing investigations

PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten – Detectives of the Special Robbery Unit have arrested two suspects in two separate ongoing armed robbery investigations.

The first arrest took place on Friday, March 4, whereby a male suspect with initials E.B. (23) was arrested and placed into custody for further investigation in connection with an armed robbery, which took place at a supermarket on January 5.

The second male suspect with initials J.V.G. (30) was arrested on Monday morning, March 7, in connection with an armed robbery, which took place on November 30, 2015, at Jordan Village in Cupecoy. The suspect has been placed into custody pending further investigation.

No major incidents reported at Heineken Regatta

PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten – The Police Department is happy to inform the general public that no major incidents have been reported during the 2016 Heineken Regatta.

This major event, which is growing annually and which, again this year, was well attended by many locals, visitors and participants in the races, and to other events has been a great success.

During this event, three persons were arrested for possession of illegal drugs, and for misconduct. They were all arrested and taken to the Philipsburg Police Department for further investigation. At the Police Department the suspects were processed and given a fine. The fines totaled NAf. 1,650.

The Police Department is taking this opportunity to congratulate, and thank the entire community of St. Maarten, and visitors to the island for their cooperation and conduct during this event.
