PHILIPSBURG:--- The 2016 Scotiabank Rotary/Rotaract Spelling Bee will kick off with a full weekend of activities.
The weekend activities start on Friday evening at Mary’s Boon where the principals and teachers of the participating schools will meet and mingle with the organizers of The Scotiabank Rotary/Rotaract Spelling Bee and will be briefed on how things will proceed at the Preliminary round on Sunday, October 16th and the two subsequent rounds.
On Saturday, October 15th, the final tutorial session will be held for the participating students at the University of St. Maarten on Pond Island between 11 a.m. -1 p.m. The other three tutorial sessions have found the students to be very enthusiastic and eager to participate in The Scotiabank Rotary/Rotaract Spelling Bee 2016. The tutorial sessions also appear to have given the attending students a lot of encouragement and confidence in their abilities.
On Sunday, October 16th, the preliminary round will be held at the Belair Community Centre where approximately 50 students from 18 schools will participate. The fifteen winners from the preliminary round will advance to the semifinals being held on Sunday, October 23rd. The top five semifinalists will advance to the finals on October 30th.
All parents, guardians, family, friends and the general public are invited to attend The Scotiabank Rotary/Rotaract Spelling Bee at the Belair Community Center from 2-5 p.m. to give the students support and encouragement. Students are asked to sign in at The Belair Community Centre no later than 1.30pm.
Scotiabank is the main sponsor for The Scotiabank Rotary/Rotaract Spelling Bee 2016. The gold sponsors are The Princess Juliana Airport, Smitco and GEBE. The silver sponsor is UTS.
