St. Maarten – Tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. the Living Statues Festival kicks off in the St. Rose Arcade on Front Street, organized by the Beyond Kultura Events Foundation in partnership with Arlene Halley of the National Institute of the Arts and the World Statues Foundation.

“For the last eight days, participants and volunteers have been working hard with the teachers to get their stuff done,” BKE-President Loekie Morales stated. “We had some challenges, but after focusing together on the same goal, we can say: We are ready.”

Twelve participants will showing their creativity in a cozy atmosphere around the Sint Rose Arcade and the Boardwalk. 

The Statues by Night has the full support of Sint Rose Manager Soons. Some shops will be open in that area and Talula Mango’s owner Norman Wathey will give the living statues a safe break location.   

Tomorrow and Sunday around thirty living statues will performing from 12 noon until 5 pm in Philipsburg near the courthouse.

On Sunday the statues parade cat walk and the prize awarding ceremony will take place in front of the courthouse between 4 and 5 p.m.

TelEm, Gebe, the Dutch Representative, the Ministries of General Affairs, Vromi and Education Culture, Youth and Sports, Obersi Xerox and Francis Carty have made major contributions to the event.

Robin Hagen of the World Statues Foundation agrees fully with Morales in the higher goals of this festival: ‘I have seen enthusiastic and creative participants and volunteers who are setting small steps in achieving higher goals that come along with such a multidimensional festival for this small island.”
