St.maarten – The prosecutor’s office has filed appeals against the verdicts in the so-called Zeepaard (Seahorse) and Sardine-investigations. Former Member of Parliament Romain Laville was acquitted on August 24 of making threats against the lives of former MP Jules James and steel pan icon Isidore York. The court sentenced Laville however to a 1-month suspended prison sentence for illegal firearm possession, though the considerations of the court made clear that it held Laville more responsible for an administrative oversight related to the extension of his gun permit than for the gun itself.
