St. Maarten News – Track and Field athletes from Anguilla, French Sint Martin and Dutch St. Maarten literally stepped on the gas last Saturday during the final event that was organized by the St. Maarten Amateur Athletic Association at the Raoul Illidge Sports Complex.

The purpose of the events on the afternoon program was to test the sprinting, hurdles, middle distance and long distance abilities as well as their abilities to compete in the field events that would ultimately enable them to qualify for spot in the 45th Central American & Caribbean championships billed to take place in Grenada in April.

There were also events for some of the rising athletes just to make the event a little more entertaining. No official report on the times of the individual athletes has been received, however, from the performances they displayed, the gap between those with natural potential and those who did not have was more than marginal.

However, with limited time remaining, those that have been shortlisted can still do what is necessary to maximize their potentials before they depart for Grenada that will be hosting the event for the 2nd time in 16 years.
