Claudia Lista vies for Chamber of Commerce seats | 721 NEWS

PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten – St. Maartener Claudia Lista has thrown her cap in the ring for a seat to represent either small or large businesses on the board of directors of the St. Maarten Chamber of Commerce and Industry. She is a candidate on both ballots for the December 6 elections.

Lista, known for her outspoken nature and advocate for causes she believes will better the community decided to the run for a seat on the board after speaking to several business owners about their concerns about the overall functioning of the economy and the need for businesses to have more of a voice.

“Based on these discussions and concerns expressed by business owners, I have decided to concentrate my attention on promoting the improvement of communication between the Chamber of Commerce and its members,” Lista said

She continued: “The benefit is achieving a greater understanding of the challenges these business owners and operators face. With that understanding, the Chamber of Commerce can better execute its advisory role to the government of St. Maarten.”

Lista plans to advocate for the establishment of an online Chamber Members Directory. “I also want to see an in access to Chamber related services and information, essentially building on what the team at COCI have already started to do,” she said.

She promised that as representative for businesses, she would promote increasing environmentally friendly practices amongst businesses which are both economical and beneficial for the environment.

“To the business owners, with your vote, I will continue to listen and talk with you as I have done to determine the best approach to resolving your many challenges and stimulate increased economic activity,” said Lista.
