The events date back to the spring of 2023. That year, a famous 5-star hotel complex and a service provider began the 3e and the final phase of work below the hotel, aimed at consolidating the cliff to secure the area and its users.
For this complex and delicate operationThe deployment of tracked vehicles onto the beach where customers usually relax seems inevitable. The situation is, to say the least, restrictive: indeed, the work can only take place during the site’s closure to the public, which also coincides with the period of sea turtle nesting, situated between May and September. A perilous project, which required the approval of various bodies concerned, in particular the Prefecture.
On May 25, 2023, agents of theOffice Français de la Biodiversité (OFB) and the Nature Reserve during a patrol, they observed the presence of heavy tracked vehicles on this site protected by a biotope protection order taken in 2022. The affected area, 800m long, puts at risk turtle nestsHowever, the company is taking certain measures, such as marking nests with… small red flags triangular, but this does not appear sufficient in the eyes of the agents who file a complaint for the reasons mentioned above.
During the hearing which lasted many hoursThe companies explain that they requested prior authorization for the work from the Prefecture and were informed that, in the absence of a response within two months, the request is considered validA lack of clarity that appears to be one of the causes of this imbroglio.
The representative of the tourist complex was keen to clarify that she was part of the continuity work initiated by her predecessors. She emphasized that she had always acted with prudence and in the compliance with proceduresby ensuring that the necessary approvals are obtained from the relevant institutions before any decision is made, in order to preserve the interests and sustainability of the establishment.
For his part, the legal representative of the two construction companies explained that the lack of technical alternatives had made this final phase of the project essential, for an estimated amount of more than two million euros.
The court placed its decision in deliberate as of January 8, 2026. _LA
