In its monitoring and forecast bulletin for the stranding of pelagic sargassum for the Northern Islands communicated on July 1, 2024, Météo France places the risk level at very high for the territory of Saint-Martin and a notch lower for Saint-Martin. -Barthélemy.
If the images of the last few days were disrupted by the presence of Hurricane Beryl, those of Saturday June 29 allowed a good analysis of the situation near Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy. Many have already noticed that the strandings began in the eastern bay. At the start of the week, many filaments will continue to flow in the very short term across the entire eastern coast of Saint-Martin. The current is weak but the sensitive prevailing east wind accelerates their progress. Saint-Barthélemy would not be spared by these rafts, particularly on the northern islets. The drift and direction of the wind should, however, spare the southern coast. A slight respite is expected today or tomorrow before a resumption of groundings in the same areas. An update of the bulletin will allow the risk to be refined next Thursday. _Vx
