Last August 28, the MP for Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin, Frantz Gumbs, sent a letter to Christine Ourmières-Widener, President of Air Caraibes, following the airline’s decision to finally cancel service between the airports of Paris Orly and Princess Juliana St. Maarten.
“During our meeting at the National Assembly in April, we had a long discussion on the company’s objectives and its desire to establish its roots in the Caribbean zone and to offer what it offers. is best for the inhabitants and their territory” writes the politician. On the occasion of the press conference with LADOM on April 29, Air Caraibes officially announced the resumption of this transatlantic route for the end of 2024, declaring the company’s attachment to “this cosmopolitan jewel of the Caribbean”, as Frantz Gumbs recalls in his missive.
The latter expresses his “incomprehension” and his “disappointment with this deletion”: “I am thinking particularly of the customers who find themselves caught off guard and who are automatically placed on a stopover flight that they did not choose”.
The deputy for SBH and SXM concludes his letter by inviting the company to reopen the dialogue: “I know Air Caraibes’ commitment to better territorial continuity in the Overseas Territories; It seems appropriate, it seems to me, to remove this uncertainty and provide elements of explanation for this new situation.” To be continued… _Vx
