From Monday, September 8th to September 23rd, a campaign to capture stray animals will be carried out in the territory.
This operation, governed by territorial regulations, aims to fight against straying dogs and cats on public roads.
Owners are encouraged to take responsibility by keeping their animals tied up and identified. The animal pound will be in operation for two weeks and any captured animal may be returned to its owner, provided that the owner is identified by electronic chip (mandatory) and after payment of the fine provided for.
The Community emphasizes the importance of public safety: Dogs must be kept on a leash, and animals classified as dangerous must be muzzled. In the interest of all, owners are asked to be vigilant to avoid unnecessary captures.
Let us also remember that abandoning an animal is a criminal offense punishable by prosecution. Pending the construction of the animal shelter and the pound promised by the Community for 2026, although work has not yet started, sterilization remains the most effective solution against proliferationThe pound, present every three months in Saint-Martin, must remain a temporary regulatory device, a device sometimes poorly perceived by the population.
