GREAT BAY--The Board of Directors and Management of the National Institute for Professional Advancement have congratulated Antonio Samuel, a graduate of the Property Maintenance, SBO Level 1 program, on being named the overall valedictorian of NIPA’s Class of 2026.

Samuel, 76, enrolled at NIPA with the practical goal of acquiring the skills needed to carry out maintenance work around his home. Recognizing that he did not yet have the knowledge and confidence to complete the work safely and effectively, he decided to return to the classroom.

Through discipline, determination and a willingness to learn, Samuel achieved his personal objective and earned the highest academic distinction among NIPA’s 2026 graduates.

His accomplishment demonstrates that education and personal development can continue at every stage of life.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors, I extend our heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Antonio Samuel on being named the overall Valedictorian of NIPA’s Class of 2026. This is a remarkable achievement and a testament to his discipline, determination, and willingness to embrace a new learning experience.

“Mr. Samuel began this journey with the practical goal of developing the skills needed to work on his own home. In doing so, he has achieved far more. He has become an inspiration to his fellow graduates and to the wider St. Maarten community, demonstrating that it is never too late to invest in oneself, acquire new skills, and pursue excellence. We are proud that NIPA could be part of his journey and wish him continued success as he puts his new knowledge into practice,” Chairman of the NIPA Board of Directors Benjamin Ortega said.

NIPA Management also congratulated Samuel on his accomplishment and commended the dedication and consistency he demonstrated throughout the Property Maintenance program.

According to Management, his selection as overall valedictorian reflects both his academic performance and the commitment he brought to every aspect of his studies.

Management also recognized instructor Winzie Singh for his dedication to student success and for providing practical, hands-on instruction in an environment where students of different ages and backgrounds can thrive.

Samuel’s success also highlights the practical value of vocational education in everyday life. NIPA’s Property Maintenance, SBO Level 1 program provides students with basic home and building maintenance skills.

The program helps learners develop the knowledge and confidence needed to conduct routine repairs, perform preventative maintenance and complete everyday projects safely and effectively.

Samuel’s story illustrates the value of vocational education not only as a pathway to employment, but also as an opportunity for independence, personal development and lifelong learning.

NIPA is encouraging members of the community, including persons entering the workforce, changing careers, developing practical skills or enjoying retirement, to consider investing in themselves through vocational education.

Registration for the 2026-2027 academic year is now open. Persons interested in developing practical, career-ready skills or pursuing lifelong learning can visitwww.nipa.sxfor information on available programs, admission requirements and enrollment.
