
In Saint-Martin, where no movie theaters Having not reopened since Hurricane Irma, the big screen is reinventing itself in a different way. On Friday, April 17th, at 19 p.m., at the Jean-Louis Vanterpool stadium in Marigot, a fifteen young people from Saint-Martin will present their own films, made as part of the Image Carriers program.
Led by ANIS Saint-Martin and ALEFPA, associations selected in the Passeurs d’Images 2025 call for projects, this program is part of a national system supported in particular by the National Center for Cinema and Animated Images. Objective: making cinema accessible where it is lacking, by putting it directly in the hands of young people so that they can tell their own story.
For three weeks, between December 2025 and February 2026, these participants — many of whom are far removed from employment, studies, or training — have discovered all the stages of creating a film, supervised by professionals Christophe Champaré and Rony Pies. Writing, directing, filming, editing: here, everything was conceived and carried out by them.
Two short films to tell the story of the island in a different way
Two works emerged from this immersion.SXM BAD BOYZ – An Ordinary Day’, a dynamic fiction rooted in the streets of the island, subverts the conventions of American action with humor and local identity. In contrast, ‘My Life, My Neighborhood gives a voice to young people who talk about their daily lives, their hopes and their difficulties, in an intimate and unfiltered documentary.
Beyond technical learning, the project has established itself as a expression spaceFor some participants supported by ALEFPA, it was a key step in regaining confidence, sharing their stories, and finding their place. A meeting with film professionals, around the film ZION last JanuaryIt also made a strong impression, reinforcing the idea that this universe remains accessible.
