In early November, EC, 23, appeared before the Saint-Martin local court via videoconference from the Pointe-à-Pitre detention center. The individual, described as a “disturbing personality” by the Prosecutor, made his presence felt during the hearing with his insolent nonchalance in the face of the seriousness of the charges.
On November 19, 2024, while being held in custody awaiting trial for previous offenses, he violently attacked two Border Police officers who had come to offer him a shower. Already agitated at 9:30 a.m., the defendant insulted and physically assaulted the officers, who responded defensively. One officer was grabbed by the neck, and the other was kicked and scratched.
Summoned by the presiding judge to explain himself, EC cited the failure to meet his basic needs as the trigger for his aggression: inadequate food due to his allergies, a shower later than usual. He said he experienced the beginning of an allergic reaction in his esophagus, which he claimed put him in a state of intense stress. He then flew into a rage, vandalized the room, attacked the mattress, and attempted to kick the officer’s desk to the ground. On screen, he even mimed the action, creating a surreal scene for the courtroom.
Already convicted of violence against a public official, he further aggravated his situation with openly provocative behavior. The prosecutor demanded a severe sentence, and the verdict was handed down: found guilty, EC received a twelve-month prison sentence and was ordered to pay a substantial sum in compensation for the physical and moral harm caused to the state officials. _THERE
