COURT: Two sisters sentenced for aggravated assault against their stepmother | FAXINFO

In the dock of the Saint-Martin local court, two sisters appeared dressed in red from head to toe. Their perfectly coordinated outfits contrasted sharply with the seriousness of the charges against them.

On January 28, 2025, in a parking lot in Orient Bay, the two women, aged 24 and 31, committed physical violence against their father's former partner, armed with a knife and a baseball bat.

Faced with the implausibility of such an attack, they pleaded self-defense: their "stepmother" had allegedly tried to run them down with her car. She was supposedly on her way to meet their father, who was said to be having relationships with several women. Present in court, the victim appeared, however, to be in a position of inferiority compared to the two robust and assertive young women. Aphasic following a stroke, she stood with difficulty in the dock and maintained that the sisters had attacked her without provocation, getting out of their vehicle with the aforementioned weapons, despite her father's intervention to protect her.

Interviewed two days later, he confirmed the complainant's version of events, referring to the "deliberate violence" of his daughters while he was trying to get his partner to safety in his car. The victim's lawyer said she was " "I was stunned by the facts, with a vulnerable woman being used as a punching bag by two sisters who were jealous or opposed to this romantic relationship."

The prosecutor described the acts as "extremely serious." The court sentenced the two defendants to six months' suspended imprisonment, a five-year ban on possessing a firearm, and a three-year restraining order prohibiting them from contacting the victim.
