Restaurant Villa Hibiscus served as the setting for the famous ” Dinner in the Dark “, an event supported by the Leo Club Safari of Saint-Martin, by young people and for young peopleThe aim was to raise awareness of disability among businesses and the general public. A look behind the scenes of a much-anticipated evening.
Marie Martin, training advisor at the CCISM, greets us at the entrance: The CCISM is the facilitator of the business club with the leading company Dauphin Telecom. The objective is to to offer companies the opportunity to participate in awareness campaigns about disabilityyouth and sustainable development in priority neighborhoods.”
A major event for the past 5 years, the Dinner in the Dark is organized annually by the Leo Club Safari. made up of 24 local young people aged 12 to 18While for three consecutive years the event was held at the Daniella Jeffry vocational high school, the setting changed this year to allow the student chefs to focus on the many events planned as part of the Gastronomy Festival.
Sandra Fleming, advisor to the Leo Club Safari, points out that youth engagement doesn’t stop there: “They also take action for the environment, childhood cancer, and on November 29th, they held a food drive for Thanksgiving which was distributed last Sunday in the neighborhoods.”
La blindness being the theme highlighted during this special evening, the visually impaired singer Céline Alvarade (aka Swé) enlivened the meal, with a song between each course served.
Organized as part of the European Disability Employment Weekthe dinner imagined by the chef Bastian Schenk for 49 guests, was resonating the passion fruit, the star ingredient of the latest Gastronomy Festival: “We wanted to highlight ‘fun’ pairings with dishes that evoke emotion. We served a smoked, roasted and lacquered duck breast with a passion fruit marinade and a starter featuring butternut squash with a hot/cold combination.
