Last Tuesday, on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the Law 1905 on the separation of Church and State, the secularism This took concrete and educational form in the streets of Marigot. Under the auspices of the Ministry of National Education, a the discovery trail brought together 120 students at all levels, centered around the values of the Republic.
Divided into groups, the young participants have followed a route designed as a citizen treasure huntAt each stage, a local speaker presented a place, institution, or prominent figure from the area. The students thus linked republican principles to the reality of Saint-Martin : founding schools, places of worship, judicial institutions, territorial police or even associative structures committed to people with disabilities.
Throughout the journey, the discussions allowed us to address equality, freedom of conscience and respect for allFor example, students questioned law enforcement officers about the importance of secularism in carrying out public duties. For the students at Émile Choisy school, the motto “Liberty, Equality, Fraternity” served as the anchor point for Article 4 of the Charter. At each checkpoint, a puzzle piece was given to the students. Assembled at the end of the course, these pieces allowed them to reconstruct the 15 articles of the Charter, presented collectively in a studious and smiling atmosphere. A powerful moment, praised by the supervisors.which demonstrated the children’s involvement and their understanding of the issues.
Between sport, culture, heritage and citizenship, this initiative has transformed Marigot into real open-air classroomA concrete and engaging way to remind everyone that, 120 years after 1905, secularism remains a living pillar of the Republic, passed down and upheld by its youth.
