EDUCATION: Women scientists to inspire the next generation | FAXINFO

Last Thursday, nine women working in scientific or technological professions came to present themselves to an assembly of more than 70 students in the second year of high school as part of the 5the edition of the Women Engineers Day. This meeting is organized by the Robert Weinum high school since 2021 to promote scientific and technological fields of study among young girls.
Each year, nearly 40.000 people are engineering graduates in France, but only 23% are women according to the IESF figures (Engineers and Scientists of France) published in 2025. Meeting women working in these professions is a way to inspire young girls to pursue these careers. This is certainly the view of Catherine Auguste, deputy director of vocational and technological training at the high school located in La Savane, who organized this meeting.
Among the godmothers of this edition: Chief Warrant Officer Julie Poitel, a criminal identification technician for the gendarmerie, Sabrina Placidoux, territorial engineer for the local authority, or even Marie-Thérèse Nuyts-Lavialle, an aerospace engineer. All of them came to answer students’ questions and discuss the realities of a career in sectors where women remain a minority“Compared to men, we feel that our right to make mistakes is diminishing,” confides Sabrina Placidoux. a finding widely shared by her female colleagues.
Two years ago, when she was in ninth grade, Belair was one of only two girls in the eleventh grade class. STI2D (science and technology of industry and sustainable development), had attended this meeting: “I didn’t know there was so many possible jobs “With the STI2D program. We were told the program was easy, but in fact, you really have to work hard and know how to work in a team!” Motivated, Belair wants to continue her studies to become an architect. _DR
