ENTREPRENEURSHIP / Medef Afterwork: a unifying event at Coco Beach | FAXINFO

Held in mid-March at Coco Beach, the FipCom Medef after-work event brought together nearly a hundred people in a professional yet friendly atmosphere. Its success was confirmed by the 117 registrations recorded in just a few days.
For Michel Vogel, president of the local employers’ association, this mobilization reflects a growing momentum: “More and more people are joining forces, meeting up, sharing, and networking.” The event, supported by four sponsors, also helped strengthen ties between local economic players.

Major issues at the heart of the discussions
Beyond networking, this meeting, moderated by Sandrine Jabouley, provided an opportunity to discuss several key issues for the region. The president of the local Medef (French Business Confederation) notably mentioned recent discussions with the Minister for Overseas Territories, addressing sensitive topics such as the LODEOM (Law for the Economic Development of Overseas Territories), the high cost of living, and the shortcomings of the CGSS (General Social Security Fund). He emphasized the need to preserve the specific characteristics of the overseas territories, while also raising concerns about the lack of judges at the Basse-Terre Commercial Court for Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy, a battle waged for two years in the name of judicial fairness. The visit of a Senate delegation, currently underway this week, is part of this ongoing mobilization around the LODEOM. “Business leaders play a crucial role in these difficult times,” he reminded attendees, calling for calm and pragmatism in the face of what he described as an uncertain situation.

Local entrepreneurship and new initiatives
The evening also highlighted several local initiatives and event sponsors, such as Caribbean Imagery, a young event photography company, the services offered by Hope Estate insurance, and the presentation of the Yves Blanchet Aeroclub by William Demy, creator of the LOVE brand and president of the association “The Wings of Grand-CaseParticipants were able to discover these projects while enjoying activities such as a photo booth and a raffle, with several guests receiving prizes. Another key sponsor and host of the evening was Coco Beach, recently taken over by Élodie and Loïc Labussière. Having arrived on the island in the early 2000s, they continue their commitment to youth training and local development. “It’s a challenge we’re proud to have met,” they said, surrounded by dedicated teams working between Coco Beach and their restaurant, SAO.
Between conviviality, economic exchanges, and showcasing local talent, this after-work event confirms the Medef’s structuring role in the economic life of Saint-Martin, just a few months before its twentieth anniversary.
