Created in 2018 in the wake of Hurricane Irma, the Green Dream Projects Foundation has established itself as a key player in environmental protection in Sint Maarten and Saint Martin. Its mission: to promote the sustainable waste management, ecological education and cross-border cooperation, by placing youth at the center of actions.
Originally, Claude Javois, environmental scientist and educator. He left at 13 to study in the United States, where he obtained degrees in Administration of allied health and Biomedical Engineering Technology before specializing in environmental waste management : “Empowering young people to become actors of sustainability is investing in our future.”
Concrete actions
More than seven years ago, during the World Environment Day, he officially launches the project on the MAC CSE campus in Sint Maarten. Among the first actions: installation of recycling stations et awareness campaigns in schools on the Dutch side. The approach quickly went beyond borders: signing a protocol with Verde SXM Iex SAS for the cross-border transport of recyclable materials and formal agreement with the Collectivity of Saint-Martin for their transport to the Galisbay sorting center.
The foundation continues its initiatives today, such as the future “EcoCash Café” at the MAC Browlia F. Maillard primary school, combining bottle collection and civic engagement. Aligned with several UN Sustainable Development Goals (quality education, sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, fight against climate change), Claude Javois aims to launch a unique program for exchanging recyclable materials between French and Dutch students, in order to unite young people around a sustainable, clean and united Saint-Martin. _Vx
