On Thursday afternoon, July 9, a serious traffic accident occurred on the Bellevue straight stretch, shortly before the border, mobilizing significant emergency resources.

According to the head of STIS 978, the firefighters responded quickly. for a "high-speed" head-on collision (impact linked to acceleration followed by violent and unexpected deceleration) involving two vehicles. Upon arrival, three victims were identified.

Among them, "a 76-year-old man was in cardiac arrest." Despite resuscitation efforts by emergency services, his death was unfortunately pronounced at the scene by the ambulance doctor.

The two other victims, two young women who were conscious but had multiple injuries, received medical treatment at the scene before being taken into care by the rescue teams.

The National Gendarmerie, the Territorial Police, the KPSM (Sint Maarten police) as well as the SMUR of Marigot were also present alongside the nine firefighters mobilized to secure the premises, provide assistance to the victims and carry out the usual investigations. The exact circumstances of this tragic accident remain to be determined.
