HEALTH – JUSTICE: Alleged fake diploma case: chronology of events | FAXINFO

Le Louis Constant Fleming Hospital Center (CHLCF) of Saint-Martin confirmed, Thursday, October 24, the Suspension of Dr. Huidi Tchéro, orthopedic surgeon and traumatologist, after more than ten years of practice on the island. A measure " as a precaution » taken by the management of the establishment, following an alert from the Departmental Council of the Order of Physicians (CDOM). The suspension runs “for the duration of the investigation intended to carry out the necessary verifications”.

A case dating back to 2016

According to several sources, Dr. Tchéro's career path raised doubts as early as 2016. That year, a health professional from the CHLCF reportedly alerted the Council of the Order about possible anomalies in the practitioner's qualifications. Due to a lack of investigative resources, the file was forwarded to the National council, which had requested a specialized organization. Gamal Abdel Nasser University in Conakry, in Guinea, had then confirmed that the medical doctor's diploma presented was indeed authentic, and the verification stopped there.

The doctor in question had nevertheless obtained a ministerial authorization to practice orthopedic surgery throughout the French territory, validated by the National Management Center (CNG), which was imposed on the local Order. It would then have passed the hospital practitioner competition, thus strengthening its professional legitimacy.

Reports left unanswered

In 2022, several health professionals reportedly once again reported to the Order testimonies of " questionable practices "And unusual complications after certain interventions. These oral alerts did not lead to any formal action.

It will be necessary to wait until 2025 for the case to resurface. A document, bringing together a set of medical elements from a group of health professionals, is then sent to the CDOMThe ordinal council immediately referred the matter to the ARS of Guadeloupe and the National Council of the Order. Two parallel investigations are opened: one by the Antilles-Guyana interregional commission, the other by the ARS. Both conclude However to the absence of professional inadequacy.

The turning point of September 2025

It was a letter from Guinea that would turn the tide. On September 16, 2025, the dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences and Technology at Gamal Abdel Nasser University in Conakry wrote to the CDOM to confirm the authenticity of the state diploma of doctor of medicine, but formally denies the validity of the surgical specialty diploma : “Indeed, the Diploma of Specialized Study in Surgery was created in 2023, which means that the document presented is a fake document,” states the official letter.

Armed with this evidence, the professional institution referred the matter to the public prosecutor of Basse-Terre in application of article 40 of the code of criminal procedure, for " forgery and use of forgery ". On October 23, the Regional Health Agency (ARS) immediately informs the management of the CHLCF, which pronounces the immediate suspension of the surgeon “as a precautionary measure”, now prohibited from accessing the operating room.

Chain reactions

La Senator Annick Pétrus, who says he has been following the case "for several months", revealed that he has submitted a report to the Ministry of Health as early as March 2025"Our population has been exposed to questionable medical procedures, lives have been scarred, families injured, limbs mutilated for more than ten years. I say: enough is enough," she declared in a public message on October 25. And she concluded with a solemn appeal: " I invite all those concerned to contact the competent authorities. so that light may be shed and justice may be done. It is now up to the Community to decide whether it wishes to file a civil action »

The CDOM of Guadeloupe is now awaiting official confirmation from the public prosecutor's office to file a criminal complaint against Dr. Tchéro, for forgery, use of forgery, illegal practice of medicine and voluntary mutilation.

A shock wave in the medical world and among the population

This case, unprecedented in the Antilles-Guyana region, highlights the flaws in the foreign diploma control systemIn France, operating permits issued several years ago are rarely re-evaluated, even when reports accumulate.

Dr. Huidi Tchéro, 48 years old, continues to benefit from the presumption of innocence, he did not respond to our requests for comment on this matter. The judicial investigation opened in Basse-Terre, confirmed by Public Prosecutor Xavier Sicot, will have to determine whether the practitioner knowingly used a false title to practice orthopedic and trauma surgery in Saint-Martin. At this stage, no indication has been communicated either on the duration of the suspension or on the timetable for the investigation. _Vx
