The association “Vitiligo Educate Inspire and Support SXM” (VEISS) is organizing a weekend of conferences focused on the health and well-being of 1er until December 3 to inform and raise public awareness about vitiligo.
Created by Gerline Isaac and chaired by Jacqueline Vrolijk, VEISS is a very active association which aims to raise awareness, educate and support people living with vitiligo and their families on the island and surrounding areas. Its objective is to enable people with vitiligo to have more self-confidence, while overcoming the mental effects of living with this autoimmune disease which is characterized by the appearance of white spots on the skin and which lasts all the life. After a year full of actions such as the association's school program launched last February which reached more than 400 students and the Walk&Zumba-thon at the beginning of November, the association team is launching its last project for 2023: the “VEISS SXM HEALTH & WELLNESS WEEKEND” which will be held from December 1 to 3, 2023. This weekend aims to inform and raise awareness among participants, whether they live with or without vitiligo, so that some feel inspired by the testimonies while others will receive support within the community to accept themselves as they are. For this second consecutive year, the event will welcome renowned speakers specializing in vitiligo, doctors, herbalists, nutritionists and partners.
This December 1st from 19 p.m. to 21 p.m. at Temps des Cerises in Grand-Case, the opening evening of the VEISS big weekend will begin with a welcome cocktail. On December 2 from 8 a.m. to 13 p.m., the “Vitiligo Is Not Just a Walk in the Park” conference on the mental effects of the disease will be held at the Grand Case Beach Club. In the evening, a three-course fundraising dinner will take place at The Bridge Bar and Grill in Sandy Ground from 20pm, with live music from Steel Pan. During the last morning, by invitation, members of the association and guest speakers will meet at Temps des Cerises to take stock of this new edition of the “VEISS SXM HEALTH & WELLNESS WEEKEND”. The association being the only one to raise awareness about vitiligo in the Caribbean, its scope is all the greater in bringing together people affected by the disease. The next long-term challenge will be to host the World Vitiligo Day conference in Saint Martin. But before that, let's wish great success to the “VEISS SXM HEALTH & WELLNESS WEEKEND”, from December 1st to 3rd. We don't see color, we see love. _VX
