To mark its five years of commitment, the Vitiligo Educate, Inspire, Support SXM association (VEISS) throw a series of public meetings aimed at raising awareness among the wider population vitiligoThe first session will be held on Saturday, April 11th, from 17pm to 19pm, at the organization’s headquarters, at the Silk Cotton Estate in Friar’s Bay.
Known for its work carried out for several years in schools in Saint-Martin and Sint Maarten, VEISS is taking a significant step forward. new step by broadening its scope of intervention to the general public. The objective is to better inform, deconstructing preconceived ideas et promote a more accurate understanding of this skin condition which is still often poorly understood.
A space to meet and exchange ideas
Held under the theme “V for Vitiligo”, this first meeting aims to create a an environment conducive to dialogue and reflectionThe program includes information sessions, role-playing exercises, and discussions about the realities experienced by the people involved.
“Although vitiligo affects the skin, its impact goes far beyond the physical,” emphasizes the association’s president, Jacqueline Vrolijk. Through this initiative, VEISS hopes to encourage a collective awareness and fight against stigmatization still present.
Beyond providing information, these meetings also aim to strengthen the values of empathy, respect and inclusion within the community. This approach is a continuation of the educational activities carried out with young people, while also responding to a a broader need for exchanges and awareness. Four public meetings are planned for 2026, with the aim of reaching a diverse audience and changing perceptions of vitiligo. Open to adults, parents, and all residents, this first session marks the beginning of a series of actions geared towards a more inclusive, supportive, and better-informed society.
