The Regional Health Agency, in conjunction with the Rectorate and local healthcare professionals, renewed for the 2025-2026 school year large-scale free vaccination campaign for adolescents aged 11 to 14 in the Northern IslandsDeployed within public and private schools, this operation aims to
strengthen the prevention of serious diseases from a very young age.
This new edition marks an important milestone with the combination of two free vaccinations carried out within the same framework: that against the human papillomavirus (HPV) and the one against the ACWY meningococcusThe two injections can be administered on the same day, each on a different arm, using a single parental authorization form, thus simplifying the vaccination process for families.
Another major new feature, la the countryside now extends to medical and social care establishments and services. Young people aged 11 to 14 in these facilities will benefit from the same conditions of free vaccination as secondary school students, guaranteeing equitable access to prevention across the entire territory.
Human papillomavirus (HPV) is one of the most common infections, affecting a large majority of the population at some point in their lives. While it often clears up spontaneously, it can in some cases to be the cause of precancerous lesions developing into serious cancers. Early vaccination, between 11 and 14 years of age, offers optimal and lasting protection.
Regarding ACWY meningococcus, this bacterium can cause extremely rapid, sometimes fatal, invasive infections in a matter of hours. Adolescents, particularly vulnerable due to living in groups, constitute a priority population for this protection.
