The Saint-Martin Veterans Association now sports a new flag, presented for the first time at the ceremony on June 18. It replaces the one created in 1998, at the birth of the association, which then represented the maritime identity of the island through a sailboat, the ocean and a sun.

“We wanted a more modern, fresher flag, and above all, one that better reflected the island of Saint Martin,” explains Cyrille Mayet, VP of the association. The new emblem highlights the territory more prominently with a pelican, hibiscus, and flamboyant tree, while retaining the Adrian helmet – the one worn by French soldiers in the First World War – a symbol of veterans, chosen here in brown in reference to the helmet worn by soldiers from 1939-1945.

Made in France from French materials, this new flag embodies the association's desire to combine remembrance and attachment to the territory. _DR
