Last Thursday, April 18, on the sidelines of the official opening of the Sint Maarten Carnival, KPSM police officers apprehended a man suspected of being in possession of a firearm.
Preliminary investigations revealed that gunshots were heard near a bar located outside of Carnival Village. Officers in the area quickly identified and arrested the individual seen with the firearm. He was taken to the police station and then taken into custody.
Pending further investigation, law enforcement urges the public to cooperate with law enforcement authorities and immediately report any suspicious persons near or inside Carnival Village.
Thanks to the responsiveness of the police officers present on the ground, a tragedy was surely avoided not far from Carnival Village. Hopefully this was an isolated case... _AF
