PHOTOGRAPHY/ Faces of Saint-Martin VII: Faces that light up the walls | FAXINFO

The faces of Saint-Martin are once again displayed in large format on the facades of Marigot, Galisbay and Grand-CaseThe Cultural Directorate of the Community has unveiled the 7th edition of the ephemeral exhibition “Faces of Saint-Martin”, a meeting that has become essential in the local artistic landscape.

Inspired by Inside Out project of the French photographer and street artist JR, this participatory concept allows everyone to share their portrait and their story in the public space. This year, the theme explores the play of light and shadow, offering a series of black and white photographs of rare intensity. Behind each look, an emotion, an identity, a fragment of Saint-Martin life is expressed, transforming the walls into a mirror of the community. The portraits, both intimate and universal, challenge passersby and bring urban spaces back to life.

Fully funded by the Community to the tune of approximately 16 000 euros, this exhibition combines artistic creation, printing and collage of large format posters. A concrete way of support the photography local and to encourage the dissemination of art in the street.

For this 2025 edition, several photographers lent their perspective to the project: Valérie Vincent, Mara Bailey, Nathalie Beaurain, Thomas Proust, Mark Martelly and Paul NatsonThe jury distinguished Mara Bailey, winner of the first prize, followed by Thomas Proust et Nathalie Beaurain.

With “Faces of Saint-Martin,” art takes to the open air and celebrates, for the duration of a season and natural wear and tear, the beauty and diversity of the faces of an island in motion. _Vx
