
The visit of Minister of JusticeGérald Darmanin, on Friday, December 5, marked a major turning point for the judicial organization of Saint-Martin.
The first stop on her trip to the Antilles was to review the progress of the construction of the future administrative and judicial center (CITAJ), a project of 41,9M €, funded as part of France RelaunchThe site will bring together 12 state services, a justice perimeter, 240 workstations and 8000 m² of premises designed according to enhanced environmental standards.

The minister has officially announced its transformation into independent judicial courtThis is a first in France since the 1970s. “This court, which until now has been a local court, will be a full judicial court, which is very important for Saint-Martin,” declared Gérald Darmanin. This development accompanies the fully functioning prefectureannounced two years earlier.

In a regional context marked by increased trafficking, the minister reaffirmed the priority given to the fight against drug trafficking and announced the strengthening of resources, as well as the creation of an investigating judge and a deputy prosecutor dedicated to Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy from September 2026.
The CITAJ is scheduled for delivery in the summer of 2026. The autonomous court should become operational within two years, marking a new stage in the territory’s judicial organization.
