
The president of the French Red CrossDr. Caroline Cross began the [program/project] on November 29 in Saint-Martin. first stop on his tour in the West IndiesBefore speaking, she held a closed-door meeting with local teams as well as representatives from the Prefecture and the Collectivity, a time for discussion devoted to the social and operational challenges of the territory.
The visit continued at the local delegation’s offices, guided by volunteers. Around her, several personalities had made the trip, including the Secretary General of the Prefecture, Fabrice Thibier, Senator Annick Pétrus, and Nadia Chirlias, President of the Red Cross of Sint Maarten.
Frantz Acramel, interim administrator of the Red Cross in Saint-Martin, praised the commitment of 60 volunteers and 32 employees mobilized on a daily basis: outreach patrols, social support, rescue, solidarity missions.
In her speech, Caroline Cross paid tribute to the island’s resilience, eight years after Irma, and to the commitment of the teams: “Your presence in the most difficult moments is an act of courage.” She also emphasized the importance of cross-border cooperation with Sint Maarten “Crises know no borders. Our two societies have a common responsibility: to protect families, support communities, anticipate risks, and respond to them together.”
Finally, the president launched a clear call for volunteers Young people, working adults, retirees, healthcare professionals, first responders, and communications specialists: “If everyone gave a little, we could do so much better, so much more.” The message got through. _Vx
